Clansayes - Valley of the Rhone

The Knights Templar had a fabulous view from Clansayes. Of course the landscape has changed a lot. A lavender field (left) may have existed already. Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux was probably much smaller, but important as the center of a diocese. Behind Saint Paul is the "Centrale Nucléaire de Tricastin" ("Tricastin Nuclear Power Plant"). It was erected within the 1970s and started operation in 1980. An accident at the "Centrale Nucléaire de Tricastin" in 2008, when uranium was released, caused a decrease in sales of wine from the "Coteaux du Tricastin AOC". So the name was changed to "Grignan-Les Adhemar AOC" in 2010.

Clansayes - Tour des Templiers

A priory was in Clansayes within the 10th century. Later the Knights Templar took over the place and strongly fortified it. It is overlooking the valley of the Rhone. This tower is one of the few remaining structures of the fortified place. The statue of the Virgin tops the 20 m high tower since the 19th century.
