Échebrune - Saint-Pierre

The Saintonge region is so rich in wonderful Romanesque buildings. Échebrune, neighbouring Biron (previous upload), as well has a Romanesque church. Saint-Pierre was erected within the 12th century. The church suffered from severe damage during the Hundred Years War, the Wars of Religion and the vandalism of the French Revolution. The western facade and the nave are still dating back to the 12th century and (just like in Biron) here are many medieval graffiti. Here is a group of walkers. Pilgrims on their way to Santiago?
