Cabanillas - San Juan de Jerusalén

Since 1142 the Knights Hospitaller (aka "Order of Knights of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem") owned this place. The order was just founded after the First Cruisade in Jerusalem and settled here, about 10 years after Moorish troops had been beaten in the area. Though the nave got rebuilt within the 14th century, the Romanesque portal got saved. The church was closed, due to a local fiesta, what was a pity.

The order was just founded after the First Cruisade in Jerusalem. The nave was probably erected within the 14th century.
