Since the 12th century Saint-Sylvain towers on a promontory overlooking Saint-Sauvant, a village loctaed between Cognac and Saintes. The church, erected on a Latin-Cross-plan, is a typical example for the "style saintongue". All around the apse are lots of corbels. One of them depicts this ancestor of Mickey Mouse. As far as I know, Walt Disney, who claimed to be Mickey´s father, has been in France for about 10 months just after WWI. But has young Mr. Disney ever visited Saint-Sauvant?

Saint-Romain, the parish church of Saint-Sauvant, was erected within the 13th century as a part of a small priory dependent on the abbey in nearby Celles-sur-Belle. The church got enlarged in the 15th century. The place may have had some importance during the 5th century, as a couple of merovingian sarcophagi are near the church. So this may have been a merovingian nekropole.

Heavy rain started in Saint-Sauvant. The apse of the parish church Saint-Sylvain was part of a large Romanesque church, erected here in the 12th century. The structure got fortified during the Hundred Years War and later partly rebuilt. Despite the many alterations, the apse still has elegance.
