Nice - Jamie Cullum

23 Nov 2015 240
English singer and pianist Jamie Cullum, the whizz-kid, has climbed up onto the grand piano and now sings and dances up there. He will do a great jump down - in a second.. He is a wizard of jazz with an immense powerful charisma. On stage he acts like unchained, like driven by his hyperactivity. He really rocked the audience and shifted to chaotic full speed. Of course this was way too much for the little snapshoot-box, I had borrowed. My Lumix was still "under arrest". Here is a video taken that night. Jamie "plays" piano - "Don't let me be misunderstood": www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkxLT6hO6kE

Nice - Jamie Cullum

English singer and pianist Jamie Cullum, the hyperactive whizz-kid, started with his song "The Same Thing", just like in Marciac the year before. He is a wizard of jazz with an immense powerful charisma. He starts to sing, he beats the drums and within seconds anybody is jumping in the rhythm. " It's just the same things that we don't know - It's just the same things, it's the same things.." Of course this was way too much for the little snapshoot-box, I had borrowed. My Lumix was still under arrest.. Here is the song, Jamie performing in Barcelona just a few days later: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wAiX2Ew3Nw

Nice - Caravan Palace

Caravan Palace wowed the audience with fast "electro swing". Music that may have its roots in the 1920s beamed up into the 21. century by the band, using all kind of electronic equipment. This is "Dance Music" - and Colitis Zoé is not only a fantastic singer, but as well an exceptional dancer. Meanwhile it was pretty dark already - and the dim light plus the fast moves took the little camera, I had borrowed, far beyond the technical limits. Here is the sound of Caravan Palace: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7JOa3dISg0

Nice - Too Many Zooz

"Too Many Zooz" performing on stage as the opening act of the festival. It is not easy to be the first - and perform in full daylight, but this trio is very experienced, as they have played long hours in New York´s subway stations. They rocked the audience with an awesome energetic beat. Knowing, that they worked as street musician in NY, I remembered another NY street musician: Louis Thomas Hardin, better known as Moondog. Actually sometimes Too Many Zooz sounded like Moondog´s grandkids - on full speed. Or even faster! Here is Moondog: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvXROes0ar8 Here are Too Many Zooz at Union Square NY www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZu097wb8wU and in Nice www.youtube.com/watch?v=20wazyLo190

My modest Lumix was in custody - see previous uploads.

Actually not all cameras were banned at the Nice Jazz Festival (see previous upload). My friend´s small snapshot-camera was allowed in without any question. So could use this. Before the concerts started, Jamie Cullum was interviewed in the backstage area. In 2015 Jamie was the official "Godfather of the Nice Jazz Festival". I am sure, he did not know, that my camera was in custody - and I could not tell him...

When I took this photo, there was a thrill of anticipation. This changed dramatically, when during the security check I learned, that I did carry "unwanted objects" with me. These were a water bottle (I was allowed to empty it), 12 apricots - and my LUMIX camera. This started a long discussion and I was allowed to keep the 9 apricots left (I had eaten 3 during the conversation), but I was asked to hand over my camera to the security people (to pick it up after the concerts). I was told, that this was done, as the artists did not want any photos taken. My point, that thousands of smartphones had easily passed the checkpoints already, did not help. My point, that a LUMIX FZ200 is not a "professional camera" did not help. Nothing helped. I had two choices. I could enter the ground without - or leave the ground with my camera. I later noticed, that a large group of "professional photographers" had "photo passes" and the right to take photos even from "reserved areas" in front of the stage. On my way back to the hotel, after the concerts, I decided to change my plans - and to leave Nice and the festival the next day. This video was uploaded by "Ville de Nice". Seen at 0.38 are real CAMERAS! www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1PhnMvU6z0

Nice - Elias & The Paï Paï Jazz Band

The "Nice Jazz Festival", founded in 1948, may be the oldest existing jazz festival in the world. That is claimed by the organizers of the festival. The first evening in Nice we listened to "Elias & The Paï Paï Jazz Band" Elias Delaunay on trombone.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LmIbec0n7A
