La Salvetat-sur-Agout Saint-Étienne

While the center of medieval La Salvetat-sur-Agout is on a steep hill, securing an old bridge over the Agout River, the old church, dedicated to Saint Etienne (Saint Stephen), is a bit outside town. It dates back to the 11th century, serves as a cemetery chapel today - and was locked.

Approaching La Salvetat-sur-Agout

The landscape had changed again. The walk was easy now without the steep ascending slopes. We had left the conifer forests, that often seemed to be a plantation - and near the Lac du Laouzas walked via old trails shadowed by large beeches and oaks. - La Salvetat-sur-Agout offers a very nice communal gîte d'étape in an old donjon like building in the middle of the town.
