.....the steeple of the church was like a tower of a castle. Not elegant,

...the most incredible piece in that church "Saint-Julien" was the cryptic baptistery. Probably way older than the church itself. Maybe dating back to the 9th century...

......the sofar highest point with 1276 meters - and had great views. Upto here the mountains were granite - but in front now was a former volcanic basin. The mountains were rounded. Some looked a bit like sugar-cones.....

.......seeing a cow from the side, the back part is totally covered with the greenish stuff. Then there is a diagonal line, a kind of equator from the highest part of the back to the lowest part on the forehands - everything below is shitty - everything above is clean. ... Rhone on the right - and the "feared" Mt. Tournier on the horizon. The first "real" mountain. Only 900m high! The trail, descending to the valley floor was steep and very slippery... Stayed in "Le Clos des Capucins" that night.

....the rain continued. The track was muddy....(.....) was from Switzerland, born in Rome, suffering from rain, mud and the rest of it. He had walked since hours and we were both heading to Chaumont. At least another 6 hours away... We met again that evening... and some weeks later near Espalion. We had dinner together in Conques. He reached Santiago - and sent me a postcard.
