The Romans called the town Moura Aruci Novum . Due to Muslim invasions, the name was changed to Al-Manijah. The current name Moura seems to be linked to the sad legend of Moura Salúquia. Christian rule came into force in 1232, when the Mouraria quarter was established outside the walls. Its geostrategic importance at the time of the Christian reconquest and later is undisputed, as the first monastery of the Carmelite Order in Portugal was built here. Market Hall

Lisle - La Halle

A market hall with an added lavoir (wash basin) did exist in Lisle since centuries. In 1846 it was decided to tear down the old hall - and replace it by this posh new one. It was inaugurated on 12. November 1856. To the left is Saint Martin, the parish church.

Logroño - Mercado de San Blas

Logroño, the capital of the autonomous community of La Rioja, hosts the elegant Mercado de San Blas, opened in 1928. The Market Hall has a website: www.eabastos.com/Presentacion.presentacion.0.html Compare this facade the nearby co-catedral (next upload). There are obvious architectural parallels.

Reached Maubourguet, crossed the river L´Adour via a small bridge, passed the nice Romanesque parish church - and took a rest under the roof of the market hall.
