Necropolis of El Monte Areo

06 Oct 2024 32
The burial mounds on Monte Areo have been known since the 19th century, but the importance of this archaeological site was only recognised in 1990 when more than 30 burial mounds were discovered during an archaeological survey. The burial mounds consist of alternating layers of earth and stone. There are also two square burial chambers, a trapezoidal dolmen and a short, single-lane corridor. They are dated to 3,000 AD.
