I just digitized an album of pictures I took in the Russian far East. This is one of them.

The docks or terminals for boat traffic along the Lena River are often built on barges such as this so they can be towed to safe harbor before the winter freezing of the river and the subsequent spring ice breakup and flooding with could wash them down stream.

This was in the flat of my friends Rosa and Valari in Yakutsk. At this point I felt kinda like a fly on the wall, hence the POV (Point of View) for this sketch.

I found this sketches from a trip I made to the Russian Far East in '02. I've already posted other pictures from another sketchbook I had with me. Just goes to show you, never carry more than 17 sketch books went travlin' -else you'll never find all your pics! :-) I later did a larger painting based on this but I'm far more satistied with this little sketch.

On the way from Vladivostok to Yakutsk, I spent a little extra, unplanned time admiring the airport. Seems forest fires in Yakutsk had the airport there closed for two days!
