This cow moose and her teenage son spend about two hours snacking in my yard this evening.

Not my best moose picture, I had to push it quite a bit due to lack of light but hey, it's still a delight to see them.

This young lady stopped by my house for a visit this evening. Although she's very polite and well behaved, we had to confine the visit to the yard, I would have invited her in to the house but she's much much too tall to fit through the door.

Around 10:30 this morning this young moose stopped by for a cold breakfast. It is -32°F (-36°C) outside right now.

I was down working around my river shop, decided to go across the slough and take a look at the river but... I found mamma moose having lunch with her two children. So! I took this quick picture and headed back to my shop. She wasn't disturbed by me at all, just kept on eating (I did keep a fair distance between us.). She has two calves but it's hard to see the second one in this picture.

So! I started followed the moose tracks around my house.

I went outside this morning, after the sun rose at 10:30, and found fresh moose tracks outside my door!

I had posted some animal tracks in the snow pictures a while back and Cat asked why there were no moose tracks included. Well... at the time the moose had not been around. Yesterday however I was going for a walk (At -25°F., -32° C.), and less than 20 meters from my door I found these fresh moose tracks! The snow is very dry and powdery so the hoof prints are not clear and well defined but they are moose tracks.

And here I found the mosse that made the tracks happily eating some of the tobacco plants I grew last summer!

The neighbor stopped by the house for a visit, with her twins yesterday.

Ye4sterday I took my Japanese guests (nihonjin) to our local onsen (hot springs). On the way there and back we saw around 6 or 7 moose. Here is one of them.

Oh well he wasn't invited to supper but he's quite welcome.

Guess who came to dinner... I was ready to eat my supper and found this guy 20 feet from my front door.

OK, The moose figured out how to pull off the plastic on my greenhouse (around the corner) and is happily nibbling the plants still therein from last summer. Oh well, a little more work for me, come spring, rebuilding it.

For the last half hour or so, momma and child have been in my yard eating lunch. The calf was born within the last week.
