Chickadee stompings

14 Apr 2013 1 209
Ha! You're looking at my secret plan to speed up spring! First I put up the bird feeder outside my window. Second it filled it with sunflower seeds. Then along come the black capped chickadees and the red pols emptying it of about a quart (around a liter) of seed in less than 48 hours. Now they'll grab a beak full of seed and fly to the diamond willow in the picture. Being a bit careless they'll spill a lot of seed on the snow below. So! When the feeder is empty they drop down to the snow to eat the seeds they dropped there. Hence all these marks in the snow in this picture are little itty bitty bird tracks. All according to my plan, because they stomped down the snow, according to my careful calculations, it'll melt 28.5 seconds sooner this year than last year! (copy of these calculations, a monograph showing all the math and formulas utilized, is available for your viewing at the well known scientific web site: ' www.ifyoubelievethis-i 'vegotthis_greatbridge_Iwanttosellyou.com) Thus I rush toward spring with a little help from my friends! :-)

Owls spit up hairballs too!

Yep, owls, like cats, spit up hairballs. My granddaughter, Sanoe, has an owl's hairball that she just found in the yard in the blue pan ready for disection. Later, when she dissected it (the hairball, not the owl), she found, from the bones and feathers contained therein, that the owl had eaten a grouse.

A young adolescent raven off seeking fun and adventure! Yeaaa, I know... the beak & feet should be black but I wanted to play with the color of the paper. ;-) Mixed media; Caran D'Ache Neocolor II crayons, watercolor, soft pastel, on colored paper.

At Creamer's field. The migratory birds have been using this field as a way stop, to fuel up and sort out the kinks in their formations, for over 40 years that I know of.
