Beech leaves, the ones at the tip are almost fully open, and the next one down the stem is about a third unfurled.

Very recently opened Beech leaves, shivering not from cold, but stirred by a gentle breeze.

One of several Fagus sylvatica growing in this area of Miltonrigg Woods.
Beech trees are naturalised rather than native to this area, but are important for wildlife, especially when they grow to this size.

According to a nearby information board, this Beech [Fagus sylvatica] was probably planted about 200 years ago, but due to the shape was never harvested.
One of several large & old trees in this area, this is probably the largest specimen.
Beech trees are naturalised rather than native to this area, but are important for wildlife, especially when they grow to this size.
The bench is one of several memorials, including under individual trees, to supporters of the Woodland Trust. HBM !

Mainly common beech leaves by the side of the path alongside the River Allen, they were soaking wet as it had been raining earlier. There was a lot of beech mast nearby.
