clch - rainfall, Jan-June, England & Wales

The lack of rain in the first half of 2022 is going to be a problem - the winter / spring rainfall season usually tops up the surface water storage in the UK, especially in SE England. . Not my Image ; fair use & public information

shw[8-22] - rainfall 1st week August 2022

Map showing the UK rainfall during the first week of August 2022. Very scare in the southern areas, rather more in the areas of Gywnedd & Carlisle. But not enough to say the water storage deficit was covered. It will need a wet winter to refill the reservoirs in south & east England . Not my image ; fair use & public information.

Some of the areas worst hit by the rainfall from the 14th July 2021 storms saw levels far in excess of their normal "30-year high" amounts. [3 of 3] No surprise that this produced significant and widespread flooding, with consequent damage and 196 deaths in Germany out of 242 in Europe. . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_European_floods . . Unfortunately, Germany wasn't the only area to receive excessive amounts of rainfall on 14th July 2021, as can be seen in this NOAA map. [1 of 3] It appears that significant storms [wind or rain(snow) or both] are becoming more frequent, because of climate change. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_European_floods . clch - uk rainfall, Feb 2020

03 Aug 2021 1 104
Winter Storms "Ciara" [8 - 11th Feb 2020] and "Dennis" [15 - 19th Feb 2020] caused the majority of the excess rainfall recorded in February 2020. Prior to this, between November 2019 and January 2020, there had periods of excessive rainfall, so the ground was pretty much already saturated. There was a good deal of flooding and related damage in the UK & Europe, plus some 25 fatalities in this wider area. . . Not my Image : Fair Use & public information.
