VoR(M)[24] - Dick Kerr No.18 {1 of 2}

26 Apr 2024 21
Dick Kerr petrol electric No.18 was built during 1918. The War department ordered two batches of these locomotives - in 1916 & 1918 - for service delivering supplies & munitions to the trenches in WW1. The access door is in the middle of the cab back plate. It is a very rare survivor, and comes from the collection of the late Peter Rampton.

Normally worked back to back with a class-mate, for various reasons. It is a very rare survivor, and comes from the collection of the late Peter Rampton.

This little 0-4-0 shunter was standing outside, it needs a little work ! No idea if the engine even runs. Will make some enquiries about the identity.

Ryam Sugar Company No.1 : 0-4-0 Built in 1918 by Davenport [Davenport, IA, USA] wksno. 1650 This was supplied to an Indian Sugar Mill at a time when much of British industrial output was concentrated on "war work" such as munitions. When she arrived in 2013, it was complete with the not insubstantial remains of a tree that had grown through the motion during her long sojourn in the wilderness. Interestingly, the cab and tender have substantial timber components. Restoration was finished in 2015.

Cadbury No.14 was built by Hudswell Clarke as Works Number D1012 with a Gardner 107HP 6LW engine in August 1955. She is a Diesel Mechanical with 3’0” wheels as an 0-4-0 and weighs 20 Tons, the locomotive had a top speed of 14mph and could haul up to 200 Tons. She started work at the Moreton [biscuit] factory in September 1956 and remained there until the locomotives retirement in 1977. There followed a peripatetic existence between a number of railway and other locations before arriving at Statfold in 2022, she has been cosmetically restored and again serves as a Gate Guardian.
