Interior of C13. I suspect that we are looking at varnished oak, and not scumble.
Originally, Third class on the steam railway was not upholstered.
The "Pairs" were two of the original 1873 4-wheel carriages mounted on steel underframes, running on bogies. F68 was formed from A9 and C13, as their underframe dates from 1909, it is likely that this was the first "pairing". It was withdrawn in the 1970s and then sold to the Phyllis Rampton Trust. After restoration, and being put onto 2ft gauge bogies it is now on display at Aberystwyth.

The GWR monogram used between 1870 and 1912.
This is on the restored GWR carraige No. 1941 - built new in 1901 [It had centreless bogies and gas lighting [hence the clerestory], 8 compartments for 10 passengers each and was 46ft in length]
