Small image showing the CPI [Consumer Prices Index] for food & non-alcoholic drinks changes between 2010 and 2024 for both the UK and the post-brexit 27 nations still in the European Union. There's a rise between late 2021 and mid-2023, after which it levels off to about the same rate as in 2016-2019. I suspect there are several causes, mostly as a response to happenings in the rest of the world. I would list i) the covid pandemic ii) brexit - UK's inflation has been less in absolute terms, but has still followed a similar profile iii) climate change induced supply difficulties and iv) Putin's ru55ian led and illegal invasion of Ukraine. UK wholesale gas prices have been steadily rising over the past year, however, that has included some steep increases, with two main peaks; the first from late November 2021 for about a month and the second in early March 2022. The former was, probably the usual seasonal leap but possibly affected by the posturing by ru55ia that culminated in the invasion of and war in Ukraine from 22nd February 2022. The latter certainly had a massive affect, aspects of which continued to have affects for the rest of 2022, as Germany among others attempted to fill their storage facilities ahead of the winter. . .
