Hudswell Clarke "Old Rusty" or South Tynedale Railway's No.18 is about to go over the level crossing and then set back onto the train in the other platform.

Crossing Cafe - aka Hickins - is in this end of the Station Building at Alston. This is the upper terminus of the South Tynedale Railway [STR]. Currently [2023] an extremely dog-friendly establishment, that also does a good range of drinks, cakes, snacks and light meals for humans. We are regular, if not frequent, customers.

At 12:30 on 23rd February 2020, the down train was just starting to leave The Green station, when it encountered a delivery van, which had "rolled back" into River Esk's path. Neither vehicle was significantly damaged and no-one was hurt. Something about dpd vans ... Not my image [PvZ?] : fair use and comment

Standard UK road sign for an ungated level crossing, but apart from a few main line excursions / tours and on the heritage / preserved lines, the UK hasn't had steam engines since 1968 !
