[1-036] Rushton & Hornsby, class P SN Portable. wksno. 173761. Built 1935, spent time as a "plinthed" prime mover for Feversham Estate sawmill, Helmsley. Sold 1968 to Jacob Foster, shown at Pickering rally, several owners since then. Re-tubed in 2019, before GDSF Lincoln display. Sold again in 2021, to Jacob's grandson and brought home.

ssm - Ransomes portable

Ransomes Portable. No.36030 single cylinder Built in Ipswich by Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies in1925. [not sure of the power rating, either 4 or 8hp ...] These engines can't be moved under their own power, and are towed by another engine, or a team of heavy horses to where they are to work, sawing wood or thrashing. Some were used in factories to drive overhead line shafts or generators, and were in great demand as a source of stand-by power in wartime.
