There's a lot of dead trees around this area. Mostly Ash and Larch, which have suffered from various fungal diseases, in some areas the landowners have been able to follow the directives to fell the afflicted trees. Sadly, some areas are sufficiently less accessible or too large for the felling to beat the death of the trees. Whatever happens, the landscape will look very different.

oak leaves I am reliably informed that, picked at this stage, one can make a passable alcoholic beverage from young oak leaves. [Making this brew was something the Vikings used to do]. I was also warned - Don't take too many leaves from any one area or individual tree.

228 came with a supply of 12" x 4" oak beams. This was originally intended for an oak underframe, but plans may be changed, depending on regulatory requirements and other factors. The dampness is purely on the surface, it was raining for part of the time during their journey northwards, although the actual arrival / delivery was in dry weather. It took only a few days for the timber surface to dry out again.
