That's a lot of timber, stacked up at the boatyard.
I didn't note which yard was depicted, but as this image was on a wall very near to the RNLI headquarters, I'm going to suggest that pile of timber will become a lifeboat ...

The remains of roots on a stump, from the colour and state of these piece of timber, I am pretty sure that they are all "driftwood" - and some of the trunks probably washed up on the nearby beach ! Part of a planted up stumpery as part of the regeneration scheme.
hin[22]ccc - new & old

There were several of these "black" timbers just inside the timber "walls" of this shelter - with tables and chairs - provided as "picnic area" - as we had Ben de-Dog with us, we needed to eat "outside" instead of in the cafe/tea room.

Contrast the difference in modern, plantation grown pine, with the "wild" grown trees that were felled in 1918.

BR - CF - Wood supplies
22 Mar 2011 |
|
This supply of timber will be used in the restoration of two waggons from the Bowes Railway that were almost destroyed in an arson attack by some mindless vandals in 2008.
The larger pieces at the front are green oak. and will become the underframes. The four largest sections were 6" x 12" and in two lengths and went to make up the underframe for the Drift Bogie. As green oak was very heavy, we were pleased that the dimensions for the grey waggon were a little smaller.
The larger stack at the rear is a durable softwood, Douglas Fir, in a range of sizes for the body planking.
BR971 - fans ready to fit

|
Having been thoroughly painted, these fans are about to be fitted into place.
Some of the ironwork is being prepared for reinstallation, note the holes in the chassis - these have been painted internally, to reduce the rusting of the bolts, which themselves have been painted.

BBH - filled plugs

|
The holes created by removing the used fixings have now been filled with timber plugs.
The reason for the two sizes is that the smaller holes were to remove the minimum amount of wood including the used fixings, the larger holes were to neaten up after some fixing were removed by another method.
