clw - Pen Dinas

31 Aug 2021 24
There was a saying on the CLW campus - If you can see Pen Dinas [marked by the stone column] it is going to rain, if you can't, it is already raining. {More of a comment on Welsh weather !} en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pen_Dinas

clw - it was here, or more to the right

Looking up from Llanbadarn towards what was the College of Librarianship campus. The local area is much more developed than it was, even with the demolition of the "Halls" on campus a few years ago.

CLW - pretty as a postcard ?

VoR(M)[24] - Dick Kerr No.18 {1 of 2}

26 Apr 2024 25
Dick Kerr petrol electric No.18 was built during 1918. The War department ordered two batches of these locomotives - in 1916 & 1918 - for service delivering supplies & munitions to the trenches in WW1. The access door is in the middle of the cab back plate. It is a very rare survivor, and comes from the collection of the late Peter Rampton.

Lamp on the external end of C.13. The "Pairs" were two of the original 1873 4-wheel carriages mounted on steel underframes, running on bogies. F68 was formed from A9 and C13, as their underframe dates from 1909, it is likely that this was the first "pairing". It was withdrawn in the 1970s and then sold to the Phyllis Rampton Trust. After restoration, and being put onto 2ft gauge bogies it is now on display at Aberystwyth.

Interior of C13. I suspect that we are looking at varnished oak, and not scumble. Originally, Third class on the steam railway was not upholstered. A collection of up to a baker's dozen benches, some very close to the seawater paddling pool [currently drained] in tghe traditional enclosure. Two problems with this area of Aberystwyth Promenade - rebuilding still underway {old age & storm damage} and the gravel chucked up from the beach during more recent storms.

The dog's leg entrance to Aberystwyth Harbour - partly the estuary of the Afon Ystwyth, but has been much modified by the piers and breakwaters. In the 1990s a small [160 berth] marina has been developed here, behind and to the left. The moorings are a mixture of pontoon and drying / mud berths with a few against wharfs.

VoR(M)[24] - Redstone

26 Apr 2024 2 1 70
"Redstone" is a 0-4-0 VBT built in 1903 as a 2ft gauge version of the De Winton locomotives. She was designed by the owner of the granite quarry in Penmaenmawr, for use by his family on their private garden railway. Restored to operational status in 2012, Redstone has moved to Aberystwyth from the Brecon Mountain Railway.
