Use of "mobile payments" by age group. I presume that the older age groups use cash or direct debit cards rather than a wallet / app on a smart phone. There is a point of view that having actual cash in the hand helps some people to keep to their budget. . not my image : fair use & public information

From the days before decimalisation in 1971, when the average weekly wage was around £32 & often paid in cash. Shown : top £5 aka "fiver" middle £1 pound bottom 10shillings 10/- or ten-bob note. £sd : 12 pennies to the shilling & 20s [shillings] to the Pound ... Gloriously confusing range of coin values ... from Farthings [1/4 of a penny] to Guineas [21/-]. 10/- note was demonetised [taken out of circulation] in 1970 in favour of the 50p coin.
