ScI[23] - Union Chain Bridge

01 Dec 2023 4 1 112
The Chain Bridge is just four miles upstream from Berwick upon Tweed, as seen from the south west. Originally built in 1820 as largely designed by a Royal Navy Caption Samuel Brown, when opened it was the longest wrought iron suspension bridge [ at 449 feet / 137m]. It is currently listed "Cat 'A'" and is on several other historic landmark registers. It was reopened in April 2023 after a lengthy and expensive restoration, and is now the oldest bridge still open to vehicles, with weight & width restrictions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Chain_Bridge

15 Jun 2022 100
Definite signs of the beginning of increased infections ... Probably due to BA.4 & BA.5, two new Omicron sub-variants and the abandonment of even basic precautions like masking & social distancing.. . . . Not my Image : Fair Use & Public Information

cvd - ONS covid figures, Scotland

These two most recent peaks are Omicron BA.1 and then the newer BA.2 variant, becoming dominant in turn, but both are underpinned by underlying high numbers of cases of the "Indian" variant at the end of 2021. . . Not my Image : Fair Use & public information

The "Pencil" built in 1912, commemorates the Battle of Largs in 1263, which was pivotal in Scotland regaining the control of the western seaboard & islands from Norwegian control. The exact site of the battle was probably just to the south of the present-day settlement. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Largs#Commemoration Taken on the way home ...

A similar pattern in Scotland, with a massive effort with booster jags. I hope that there is enough time for then more recent jags to have built up the recipient's immunity before the New Year festivities. . . . Not my Image ; Fair Use & public information

cvd - Scottish case rates (May to July 2021)

12 Jul 2021 76
Scottish covid cases. These case rates shows the growth of huge peak at the end of June, most likely from the huge numbers of close social contacts whilst watching the "Euro" football matches which has pushed up cases of the 'Indian' variant over what would have been expected. Once there were enough cases within the community at large, the higher transmissibility has kept the case rate high, especially among the younger adults. . . . 01 Jul 2021 138
Note the sharp jump in the two labelled categories between 19th and 23rd June 2021. I suggest that this is due to the extra social contact whilst watching the "Euro" football matches. Not my Image : Fair Use & public information

cvd - Scottish positivity end of June 2021 [1 of 2…

01 Jul 2021 134
Scottish covid cases. The case rate to the left shows the huge peak at the end of June from the Third Wave, when compared to those for the first and second waves. The "by age group / sex" for the latest week version to the right shows a significant bulge in the young males, and almost no cases in the groups that will have had two jags. Conclusion - the social contact whilst watching the "Euro" football matches, again, has pushed up cases of the 'Indian' variant over what would have been expected.
