MF[23] - Lift Out {4 of 4}

30 Jul 2023 2 1 129
Close up of the rudder, propeller and under the hull. The anti-fouling has worked quite well on the wooden hull, but the metal work has accumulated a few items of marine growth - mainly barnacles, mussels and some tube worm. The sacrificial anode has all but disappeared ... so it has done it's job.

Stern view ... more tube worm, some mussels, barnacles / limpets - considering she has been afloat for at least three years longer than anticipated, the anti-fouling [helped by the ironstone stain in Nov 2022] hasn't done too badly.

The finished rudder and tiller hung on William Riley. The rudder is normally controlled using ropes, by the coxswain. (the bright spots are sunlight coming in some ventilation openings in the ridge of the roof )

WR - Rudder 1

A replacement rudder was made by laminating oak sections, and then cutting out the required shape. This process was used to try to eliminate warping. So far, it has worked!
