01 Feb 2022 16
An aerial photograph of Dunstan Staithes and the housing development on the "Riverside" site of the NGF90 / Gateshead Garden Festival site. {Feb 2022} Some of the surviving re-planting is doing well ! Sadly, it also shows that the Staithes Basin has silted up again and that the arson damage to the wooden staithes has not yet been repaired, despite the Staithes being Grade II Listed ... . Long abandoned nest [cup] found displaced from the support branches and hidden in ivy during the winter, only retrieved for an image in late April. Tucked it back near where it was found with some hay. Was made from roots, mud and may have had some grass as a lining - probably a blackbird or thrush, as Turdus sp breed freely around here.

A demonstration of how not to enter the R.Avon from the Cumberland Basin / Floating Harbour. Difficult to tell, but I think there is a steam tug on the far side of the square-rigged vessel. No doubt they are waiting for the incoming tide to bring enough water depth to sort out the situation, as the ship's bows look firmly embedded in the mud, exposed at low tide. Not my image : Fair Use - discussing ships aground in awkward places.

A couple of rather muddy belted galloways. (Either Fisherground or Spout House Farms - but in mitigation, the ground has not really dried out yet, after the wettest winter for years, some of the flooding can still be seen in the distance.
