Common Blue Damselfly. Young adult male ? Finally, one of these fast flying and very manoeuvrable insects sat still long enough ! cropped in camera. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enallagma_cyathigerum

I wish that I had had a macro kit with me instead of the point and shoot - these shield bugs are fascinating. This one flew into the car as we were sat eating ice-creams ... moved onto some bushes nearby. When I get hold of a suitable mini-beast guide I'll have a go at an id.

This thistle is approaching five feet in height - I'll try and id it properly soon........ it is very attractive to bees, butterflies etc so I'll need to visit in the evening.
