The text reads ... " THIS OAK TREE WAS PLANTED ON THE OLD COCKPIT AND CELEBRATES THE CROWNING OF GEORGE V 1912 " So the oak tree is at least 111 years old ... better add 5 to 9 years to that as it would have been a small sapling when planted. [although the grass has been cleared from around the stone, it needs a little tlc, and perhaps some attention to the inscription]

RER - Synolda 1

Portrait of a venerable locomotive. "Synolda" was built in 1912 by Bassett-Lowke. Usually resides in the museum, but on Tuesdays during July and August 2016 she will be found outside the rebuilt engineers workshop, offering a short run on the long siding. (In the background is one of the "maxi" coaches, dating from the 1990 Gateshead Garden Festival)
