O&S(meme) - wired vs free

And if you show that 'phone to most of the modern generation, they would have no idea how to operate it to make a call, although they might manage to pick up on an incoming call. [Not that it would work, as it will be "pulse-dialling" rather than "tone dialling" and I don't know if that system is still supported - it isn't for the national UK network]. I'm going to see if I can determine a date / model ... E2A = Some discussions with a 'phone collector suggests that this may be an "Ericisson" [sp?] or a similar non-UK design. Date is probably pre-WW2 [so late 1930s]. . Not my image : Fair Use & entertainment.

eatm - phone box

Red telephone box, with separate phone and cash box (first used in 1925, and began to be phased out in the late 1950s) The Button A and Button B payphones, connected callers via an operator on insertion of the call fee. The caller then pushed Button A to deposit the coins and make the connection. If a call could not be connected for some reason, or if there was no reply, Button B was pushed and all the coins were returned. During the 1960s the development of STD exchanges altered the cash requirements significantly and the design of payphones also changed.
