On the Sunday morning of the 15th Dresden Steam Engine Festival two steam-hauled specials from Dresden to Freiberg ran in parallel from Tharandt southwest of Dresden.
One of the pair was this freight train headed by Deutsche Reichsbahn Class 52 2-10-0 52 8154-8 waiting in Tharandt station for the second train which was running an hour late.
I confess I wasn't concentrating on the bench when I took this shot.... Anyway HBM to everyone. Have a great day.

The driver in the cab of 1097-1 was checking out the Dresden platform activity while waiting to depart.

he first steam train of the Dresden Steam Festival hauled by DR Class 23-10 2-6-2 35-1097 from Dresden Hauptbanhof to Rosswein west of the city. We intercepted the special at Meissen on the single track line.
35-1097 powers around the sharp curve on the un-electrified section south out of Meissen to Nossen after the one minute station stop at Meissen Triebischtal S-Bahn station. This was originally a main line to Leipzig but after the Second World War one track of the line was dismantled to provide reparations to the Soviet Union.

The heavy rain held off for a while fortunately but there was still a steady drizzle.

A view of Theatreplatz with the St Trinity Cathedral on the right, the roof of the Semperoper bottom left and the Augustus Bridge over the river Elbe.
An early Sunday morning stroll while the streets were still empty & for the first time it wasn't raining so I managed to fly the drone to get this aerial view.

Here we are departing from platform 1 under Dresden station's splendid overall roof. The locos are just visible at the head of our train! A fair crowd turned out to watch and film us leave.
It's not often that I get asked to explain my pics but I was asked a fair question about why this image should fit into the Naturally Occurring Collages Group. This deserves a fair answer.
One defintion of a collage is art that results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
On the face of it my image is of a railway station and it was taken as such. On another level the superimposed verticals, diagonals and curves of the silhouetted steelwork create an intriguing pattern. The shadowy figures "pasted' into the scene add to the effect of a collage of different shapes and angles.
That was how my mind was working when I uploaded this shot - a found collage - although not necessarily when I took the picture. Perhaps an element of blur or vignetting might have taken it out of the realm of just a railway scene.

This attractive glass & metal covered staircase, dating from the 1909 rebuilding leads down from the island platform at Tharandt railway station to the subway & exit.
I am reminded of the similar covered staircase at Quedlingburg station in the Harz.
