English illustrator Margaret Tarrant, who later achieved renown with the Flower Fairy books of the 1920's, did the cover to this edition of Fireside Fairy Tales by Whitman while Alice Carsey handled the interior illustrations. This edition is undated, but it is likely an early offering from Whitman, who started publishing in their familiar Racine, Wisconsin location in 1915. Late teens to early 20's.

When this beautiful book by R. H. Garman was published in 1911, the term "coloring book" was still not in widespread use. Even though crayons had been around for several years - the Crayola brand was introduced in 1903 - the medium by default was still watercolor paint. Happy Days by R. H. Washburn Crosby Cook Book

This antique cook book from the Washburn Crosby Company, manufacturers of the famed Gold Medal Flour brand, dates from 1894 and appears to have been well-read! The book is magazine-sized and features many wonderful illustrations in addition to the full-color lithographs on the front, back and inside front and back covers. A depiction of their impressive milling operations from the back cover appears in the preceding post. Washburn Crosby formed the cornerstone of what was to become General Mills.
