This vintage, April 1945 Our Navy magazine cover depicts a sailor at ‘gyp joint’ newsstand enthralled with a copy of Shadow Comics no. 48 (vol. 4, no. 12).
In addition to a few nice pulp magazines, there are enough golden-age comics to make any collector’s mouth water. Some of the other issues pictured include:
Air Ace no. 20 (vol. 2, no. 8)
Blue Circle no. 4
Captain Midnight no. 28
Camera Comics no. 2
Comic Capers no. 3
Picture Stories From the Bible – New Testament no. 1
Startling Comics no. 32
Three Ring Comics no. 1 (only issue)
Young Allies no. 14

Every time I look at this cover, I find the composition ambiguous or misleading in the regard that the skeleton's position almost looks as if it's behind the boaters rather than in front, even with the perspective cues, like perhaps it's an over-sized skeleton. I think it's aided by the fact that the skeleton's posture looks like it is sneaking up on them. Maybe I'm just crazy...

Almost every E.C. cover could be considered a classic, from the logo itself to the stark, in-your-face subject matter.
