This first Novel Library paperback set the tone for a string of memorable sleaze romance novels, many of them by Jack Woodford.

Hands down, one of the best paperback covers ever. This Avon classic has all of the requisite sci-fi kitsch one could ask for, except maybe a ray-gun.

Panic was published by E.C. comics, who also published a similar and better-known satire comic called Mad Comics , which eventually became Mad Magazine . Like most E.C. comics of the day, Panic featured four stories by comic art heavyweights like Bill elder, Jack Davis, and the great Wally Wood. Panic is one of a handful of titles that E.C. published after the Comics Code Authority (C.C.A.) was established, usually designated as their short-lived "New Direction" titles. The C.C.A. effectively did away with the more popular E.C. books like Tales from the Crypt and The Vault of Horror. This issue opens with a spoof of Alley Oop entitled "Irving Oops" by Bill Elder and closes with Wally Wood's wonderfully-rendered "Gone With The Widow." Panic issue No. 8 - May 1955.
