Sadly, Chicago politics has long been corrupt, as evidenced by the current gubernatorial controversy. I think it no coincidence that "Cook" County is home to Chicago itself with prominent "Lake" county to the north... I doubt Blago - as he is called - will come out guns blazing like in this cover illustration by Emmett Watson for Frank Gruber's "Death Elects a Governor" - at least I hope not!! Detective Fiction - September 21, 1940 issue.

Neither the art director nor Earle Bergey himself would let such a golden opportunity slip by... The concept: throngs of seductively-clad women (and one token Gregory Peck look-a-like) scurry about the streets in dire panic at the arrival of a horde of flying saucers. The result: a truly unforgetable cover! Behind The Flying Saucers by Frank Scully (no relation to Dana that I am aware of) - Popular Library Novel No. 326. Classic cover art by Earle Bergey.
