For a spell in the early 1960's, DC's Star Spangled War Stories featured tale after tale of giant dinosaurs pitted against our armed forces. By 1973, editors at DC thought a newer generation of readers were ready for a rehashing of those epic tales, and several were featured as reprints in the short-lived G.I. War Tales seen here. G.I. War Tales - Issue No. 2, July 1973. Dramatic cover art by Russ Heath.

DC used this cover device more than a few times where the lead character walks a thin line between drastically different worlds. Strange Adventures - Issue No. 181, October 1965. Cover art by Bernard Baily..

When you have a character who as an adult will be able to move planets from their orbits, coming up with a monthly myriad of engaging adventures requires thinking outside the box. Ergo, the creative staff at DC relied heavily on a host of transformation stories. If Jimmy Olsen or Lois Lane wasn't turning into an alien or perhaps a plant, an anthropomorphic animal might just as easily fill the bill. Superboy - Issue No. 142, October 1967. Cover pencils by Curt Swan.

This is almost too psychedelic for me to wrap my brain around. Scooter was the preferred mode of transportation and hence the nickname for the title character, a young British musician, in this hybrid "Archie meets the Beatles" teen humor comic. Swing With Scooter - Issue No. 4, January 1967.

Bertram "Binky" Biggs dates all the way back to 1948, but Binky got a hip new makeover for the short-lived Binky's Buddies series. Binky's Buddies - Issue No. 1, January-February 1969.
