As explained in the text box, young boys (sorry, no girls allowed, I guess) were encouraged to pass five coupons off to their friends and keep one for themselves, entitling each of them to a year's subscription to "Tips" magazine, containing tidbits relating to building and construction. Of course, A.C. Gilbert was best known for their Erector sets.
