Sea Beast

Although now a dog of mature years our Jefferson still loves to plunge into the sea and generally goof about.

Dogs are not allowed on the furniture at Tarboat Towers, however that doesn't mean that dogs don't get on the furniture when they think nobody is around. The look here says that she has just woken up to the realisation that she is busted. All that is to come is to be unceremoniously put back on the floor. Such a nuisance when she was so comfortable.

Sunset at Rossmore Quay on the Galway shore of Lough Derg. Jefferson surveys the barge that had brought us to this quiet place for the night.

Resting

Took the dogs racing at Askern track at the weekend. A great day out was had by all and my two made some finals and even came back with a rosette for second place in one race. Amidst the barking and excitement trackside, I spotted this chap just chilling in the most comfortable corner he could find. :-)

Paddling

Niamh on her first seaside holiday. It was hard to get her out of the water as she loves beaches so much.

Beach, ball, and beast

Niamh and beaches are made for each other. Add a ball and she is in heaven. Nun Mill Bay, Kirkcudbright

A day at the races

15 Feb 2011 208
We went lurcher racing the other day. Jefferson had his usual afternoon thinking he was in heaven and took part in three races. He is seen here, on the left of the leading pair, coming a good second in the quarter mile dash. This is definitely his best distance. Niamh had her first race ever and came last in the 250m sprint. Now Niamh doesn't do last and had a good think about this before her second race in which she set off immediately across the infield to meet the lure and the rest of the pack as they came around the top bend. The result was that the race was stopped and she had to be given the 'walk of shame' and removed from the field! Oh well, some dogs are too clever for their own good. :-))

Southerness

10 Jul 2010 359
Niamh takes time out to explore the beach at Southerness on our recent Scottish trip. Southerness Point lies on the Solway Firth to the south of Dumfries. The lighthouse was originally erected in 1749 as a marker to aid ships entering the Nith Estuary and was raised in 1795. A light was added in about 1800 and the tower was raised again in 1843-44. It is now disused, the light having been taken out of use in the mid-1930s.

Jefferson is the latest addition to the Tarboat pack. Part hyena, part tiger, and very, very fast!

Watching

In response to Mangrove Rat's request for a picture of Niamh in the snow, here she is keeping an eye on tarboat slogging up a hill somewhere in Cheshire. Photo by Mrs Tarboat.

Iced up

As requested by Eagle142. Somewhere under all that ice and snow is a lurcher. She didn't seem to be bothered at all. She is so well insulated that the ice stayed on until I took her indoors to melt all over the carpet. Photo courtesy of my niece Hannah.

Splash!

Jefferson has proved to be a water dog. He has no fear of water and is happy to plunge in to retrieve his ball.

Boat dog

This week Niamh was introduced to the pleasures of boating. Apart from falling in before we set off she soon got the hang of patrolling the deck and looking out for pirates etc.

Happiness is a day by the sea - messing about amongst the seaweed and paddling in the water.

Niamh

Having lost both my lurcher pals in late summer 2008 I was finally persuaded that it was time for a new pal. This is Niamh who has come to us from the excellent Lurcher Link organisation. We seem to like each other. ;-)
