Memories of a lost business. Macclesfield's Woolworths on Mill Street in the run up to Christmas in 2007. Just over a year later it would be closed as the business went into administration. The shop is now an Iceland outlet.

The demise of Woolworths is upon us and the frenzy continues to buy everything that is left, including the fittings and fixtures. There will no doubt many who will miss this institution that has been on our High Streets for all but one hundred years. In latter years I felt that they had lost the plot somewhat and rarely purchased anything there. It looks as if others acted in the same way. I do hope that the staff are able to find alternative work quickly.

Picking over the bones in the last few days of trading at the Macclesfield branch of Woolworths. Even the display boxes for DVDs and the shelves were for sale. As the stock reduced the further reaches of the shop were taped off and trading retreated towards the entrance.

Woolworths proudly offering hot deals and lottery tickets on Mill Street in Macclesfield. I wonder what other excitement and bargains lie beyond the inviting portals? The medieval street layout did not allow me width to stand back enough fit the whole shop frontage into this image.
