Colne Valley Greenway is a small nature reserve and hiking trail which follows the path of Colne Water, a small river in Colne, North-West England. Unfortunately, the only wildlife we saw today was a single rabbit and a few pigeons but when the weather is warmer there are many kinds of birds and wild animals to be seen here. Photographed near Colne, North-West England, using a Nikon D300s camera and Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 lens. Processed with Nikon Capture NX2. The bird was about 50 yards away and I had trouble holding the camera still because of the extreme cold and the weight of the camera-lens combination (2.5 kg / 5.5 lbs) but it turned out reasonably well despite the fact that the lens (which was set on "auto-focus") seems to have focused on the twigs in front of the bird. Next time I'll use manual focus !!

The flooding of the River Ouse in York, England, which happens most years in late Winter / early Spring, usually around February. The white Tudor-style building with the sloping roof is a pub called "The King's Arms", better known as "The pub that floods". These two photographs were taken from the same viewpoint (Ouse bridge) in different years, both in February, with one of my first low-resolution digital cameras and joined together with Nikon Capture NX2 software.

Rising on Pendle Hill in East Lancashire, Pendle Water cuts a deep valley between Barley Moor and Spence Hill where it feeds the Ogden Reservoirs before making its way Eastward through Roughlee, draining the valley near Wheathead at Water Meetings (1 mile to the West of Blacko village), then moving South by Higherford and Barrowford where it is joined by Colne Water. Pendle Water subsequently runs by the Lomeshaye Industrial Estate West of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to its confluence with the River Calder in Reedley Hallows, North-West of Burnley.

A Winter view of Pendle Hill, photographed a year ago from the banks of Pendle Water, a small river near Barrowford in Pendle district, North-West England. The river (in the foreground) was partly frozen and so were the flood-waters which can be seen in the fields. The camera used was a Nikon D90 and the processing was done with Nikon NX2 software.
