Het meer Paittasjärvi is een langgerekt meer dat begint bij Nikkaluokta. De lengte bedraagt ca. 18 km en de breedte is maximaal 2½ km. Aan het einde komt het water in een korte rivier die weer in een volgend meer uitkomt. De (enige) weg van Kiruna naar Nikkaluokta is langs deze meren aangelegd. – – – Lake Paittasjärvi is an elongated lake that starts at Nikkaluokta. It is about 18 km long and up to 2½ km wide. Waarschijnlijk niet mijn beste foto, maar wel een favoriet: de stam van een dode boom. Genomen in het natuurreservaat Haaksbergerveen in Twente. Bovenop de piek van de stam lijkt de maansikkel de stam aan te raken, dit geeft de foto een extra surreëel accent. Een andere surreëel accent is de stam: die lijkt op een zwarte bliksemflits. I took the photo just after sunset in the nature reserve Haaksbergerveen (peat and heath) in the east of The Netherlands. On the peak of the stem the crescent moon seems to touch the point which gives the photo an extra touch of surreality. Another surreal touch is the stem: it just looks like a black lightning flash. Waar ging het mis is een vraag die ik mijzelf kon stellen. Er zit geen verschil tussen de handmatige opnamen met of zonder belichtingscompensatie. De overbelichting werd dus in de nabewerking gedaan. Later bedacht ik mij dat de camera in de stand ‘diaframa voorkeur’ (Av) moet staan, deze stand gebruik ik echter nooit. Op de foto een fietspad door de Purmer. Oorspronkelijk was de Purmer een meer in het Hollandse veenland. Onder invloed van menselijke bewoning, stormen en golven daalde het maaiveld en werd het meer groter en kreeg een verbinding met de zee. In 1618 werd begonnen met het aanleggen van een dijk, in 1622 viel de Purmer droog. De polder van 26 km2 ligt 4 meter beneden NAP. Wegen, sloten en landbouwgrond werden volgens een strak rechthoekig patroon aangelegd. Saturday Self Challenge: overbelicht met opzet – – – Where I have been wrong is a question I could ask myself. There was no difference in manual shooting in with or without exposure compensation. So overexposure was done in post processing. Later I found out I had to set the camera to ‘aperture priority’ (Av) and then it works. However, I never use that setting. On the photo a straight cycle track through the polder of the Purmer. Originally the Purmer was a lake in the peatland of Holland. Under the influence of human cultivation, storms and swell the peatland subsided and the Purmer became larger and got a connection to the sea. In 1618 a dike was built along the edges of the lake, in 1622 the lake became land. The land surface of around 26 km2 is around 4 meters below NAP. Roads, fields and ditches were laid in a rigid rectangle pattern. Laat ik het eerst zeggen: de dag dat ik deze foto nam ben ik nooit in een onveilige situatie geweest. Deze dag, 25 september, trok ik over het Kungsleden in Zweeds Lapland, van de hut Sälka naar de hut Tjäktja, een afstand van 12 km. Na 6½ km vlak terrein ga je een pas over en de laatste vier km zijn weer vlak. Daar doe je, exclusief pauzes, zo’n 3 à 3½ uur over. Deze dag werd het anders. Meestal trek in de herfst door Lapland. Dat doe ik in mijn eentje. Er is dan zeker kans op sneeuw maar ook op mooi weer. De winter viel alleen vroeg in. De afgelopen twee dagen woei het hard en sneeuwde het en vandaag was het rustig en droog. De eerste 5 km waren dan ook gemakkelijk: zowel het pad als de markeringen waren goed zichtbaar. Ook de sneeuw was niet diep. Dat kun je op de foto zien. Na 5 km werd de sneeuw een stuk dieper, markeringen werden slecht zichtbaar en het begon opnieuw te sneeuwen. Het zicht werd slecht. Tot aan het begin van de pas was het loodzwaar. Daar besloot ik terug te keren: ik had het idee dat ik op de grens van veilig en onveilig stond. Het veilige was teruggaan. Het liep echter anders: na enkele minuten hoorde ik een stem en besloot ik even te wachten. Ik stond immers langs een pad en dus kwamen er mensen langs. De stem bleek van de helft van een stel, en gezamenlijk besloten we alsnog door te gaan. Het was inmiddels gestopt met sneeuwen en het zicht werd ook weer voldoende. Uiteindelijk bereikten we na 7½ à 8 uur de hut. – – – Let me first say this: I have never been in an unsafe situation during the day I took this photo. This day, 25 september, I hiked over the Kungleden in Swedish Lapland, from the mountain hut Sälka, to the mountain hut Tjäktja, a distance of 12 km. The trail is quite easy, after 6½ km of flat terrain the trail leads over a pass and the last 4 km is flat terrain again. Excluding breaks, it’ll take you 3½ to 4 hours. This day it became much different. I am used to hike through Lapland in the autumn and I am used to do that on my own. During this time there is a chance on snow but a bigger chance on calm autumn weather: cloudy, sunny, dry and rain. However, the winter entered early. The two days before it started to freeze and it snowed and there was a stormy wind. Today it started quiet and calm. The first 5 km were easy going and both trail and markings were clearly visible. Also the snow was not deep as you can see on the photo. After 5 km the snow became deeper, markings became bad visible and it started to snow again. Also visibility became bad. Until the beginning of the pas it was extremely heavy and there I decided to go back: I had the idea that I was on the border of being safe and unsafe. The safe option was going back. It turned out different: after a few minutes I heard a voice and I decided to wait a little. I was standing along a path and there were people coming along. The voice was of one half of a couple and together we decided to continue and go over the pass. In the meantime it stopped snowing and visibility became sufficient to continue. Opdracht was ‘negatieve ruimte’. Op de foto een landschap uit de provincie Flevoland, ten westen van Almere. Nu is het boerenland, in tde toekomst wordt het onderdeel van Almere. In 1968 viel dit land droog, de vierde polder van de Zuiderzeewerken kon worden ontgonnen. Wat onderdeel was van het IJsselmeer werd land. In 1978 werd een viegtuigwrak ontdekt op de plek waar nu de rechter windmolen staat. Het was een bommenwerper, neergeschoten in de nacht van 1 mei 1943. Om dat te herdenken werd op de windmolen een gedenkteken aangebracht: een silhouet van de bommenwerper, de datum en het logo van de Engelse Royal Air Force. – – – On the photo a landscape of the province Flevoland, west of the city Almere. It is now agricultural land, in the future it will be part of the city Almere. In 1968 the land you see on the photo was completely drained, the fourth polder of the Zuiderzee Works was completed and the land was cultivated. What was part of lake IJsselmeer became land. In 1978 a wreck of an aeroplane was discovered on the location of the right windmill. It was a bomber, shot by German troops on 1 May 1943. Opdracht was ‘november’. Meestal is november guur en nat en de bomen zijn vrijwel kaal. Welnu, de weersverwachting laat niets van dat alles zien. De komende tijd overwegend droog, zonnig, zacht en weinig wind. Geen typische herfststorm in zicht. En dat is de hele herfst al zo. En dat laat zich zien in de bossen, de bomen hebben nog veel bladeren. In Lightroom heb ik de foto een ‘dromerige’ verschijning gegeven, aangezien het weer nogal dromerig is. Dit d.m.v. het zwart-wit maken en de helderheid sterk te verminderen. The month november is usually bleak, wet and windy and the trees have lost their leaves. Well, the weather forecast does not show anything of this november weather for the coming time. The forecast shows mainly dry, sunny, mild and not much wind. Not a typical autumn storm in sight. And this is already the whole autumn. And the forests show that: there are still many, many leaves on the trees. Since the weather is quite dreamy I gave the photo in Lightroom a ‘dreamy’ appearance by turning it into black an d white and decreasing the clarity down to zero.
