I believe I have the correct ID for this tropical butterfly that I photographed at the Calgary Zoo on 20 April 2012. I take so many photos in the ENMAX Conservatory, but then never seem to get time to go through them properly. So, every once in a while, I'll grab one from my archives. The sky is so dreary early this morning and there is a Storm Watch in effect, for more snow. Another day's plans bite the dust : ( This pattern of planning a day out of the city, and having to cancel because of the weather, is getting very monotonous and more and more annoying, ha. Later: as it turned out, the snow lasted such a short time and I could have gone out after all. Hope it stays snowless for tomorrow!

A beautiful Heliconius cydno at rest in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo. This butterfly ranges from Mexico to northern South America. Sorry, gotta post and run, which seems to be the story of my life the last few weeks! Have a volunteer shift this afternoon. Yesterday morning, went on a bird walk in Weaselhead for over three hours (happy to see a distant Kingfisher), and then had a botany outing all evening (happy to see Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids and friend, David, did a brilliant job of finding a Morel mushroom in three different locations - my photos are crummy because of such poor light and the settings were so unphotogenic). Judging by the storm clouds above us, we were expecting to be rained on heavily, but amazingly the rain only started when I was part way driving home.
