These very attractive butterfly chrysallises looked metallic, and they belong to the Tithorea tarricina butterfly. The Enmax Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo now has added butterflies to their display, along with a few racks of various Chrysalisses. It's fascinating to watch as a fresh butterfly emerges. Yesterday evening, we had a very unpleasant windstorm and snowstorm! We desperately need all the moisture we can get, though, so it was not a bad thing for nature.

Now that the butterfly room is open at the Calgary Zoo's Enmax Conservatory, not only can you see several different species of butterfly but also two or three racks of rows of different shapes and colour of chrysalis (butterfly pupa). Amazing how different each kind is - one type is beautifully metallic (will post a photo of those soon).

The Calgary Zoo had several racks of amazing butterfly chrysalises this summer, in the ENMAX Conservatory. I had no idea how varied butterfly chrysalises are and how beautiful.
