Orange burst

This was such a pretty flower - I think a Chrysanthemum. Very spikey and irregular in petal length.
Today, I was out from 7:00 a.m. till 7:15 p.m. on the Nanton Christmas Bird Count. Dead beat, so am only posting one image tonight, LOL. I should also add that the last part of the day was spent back at one of the organizer's homestead, for a delicious pot-luck supper, while all the sightings were organized and recorded. Had such beautiful weather today and the mountains and Foothills looked gorgeous, covered in snow. Not many photo opportunities, though, as we were driving/being driven along all the side roads most of the time, with just an occasional stop to quickly walk around various homesteads. The only few bird photos I took were of a Great Horned Owl : )

An image from my archives, taken on 29 December 2009. I had put it aside a while ago, when I was backing up a few files ready to delete from my hard drive, so it saved me from clicking through lots of images now, to find something suitable to post. Mouse-clicking is definitely the main culprit when it comes to the pain in my arms and shoulders, but, like most people, of course there are so many things that I use the computer for.
My parents in 1939

This old family photo amuses me and is a reminder of how important photography was in my father's life. There is no date on the back of the photo and I'm not sure if this was taken before or after I was born. (Later: this magazine issue came out in June 1939.)
Vera Kathleen Bassindale (nee Neal), 1914 -1998
Tom Carden Bassindale, 1907 - 1976
They were married on 4th June 1938.
Thanks to George (Dixon), I now have the following information:
US edition; 25cents. June 1939. Bette Davis. Photoplay did not have its own publication in the UK until 1950.

"Photoplay first appeared in 1912, but was not initially successful. However, when James Quirk took over editorial duties in 1914 he implemented changes that would make Photoplay the top film magazine, one which by 1922 would boast a circulation of over two million." Well, not exactly, but that is what this image makes me think of : ) Should have saved this photo of tiny (maybe half inch tall) Quartz crystals to post on a day with heavy snow and bitterly cold temperatures. Not too organized at the moment! If you are living in a world of white with frigid temps at the moment, hope this colour warms you up.
Peruvian Lilies

It must sound very familiar by now when I say: " A bright, cheery flower for a white, snowy day", LOL.
"Alstroemeria (syn. Alstremeria), commonly called the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, is a South American genus of about 50 species of flowering plants. Almost all of the species are restricted to one of two distinct centers of diversity, one in central Chile, the other in eastern Brazil. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing. All are long-lived perennials except A. (Taltalia) graminea, a diminutive annual from the Atacama Desert of Chile." From Wikipedia.
This morning, was out driving the roads east of Calgary with a friend, hoping to see some kind of owl, but no sign of a Snowy, Short-eared or even a Great Horned Owl : )
The weather turned nasty, snowing and with very poor visibility along most of the roads. It's kind of a neat effect, though, when the endless flat fields are exactly the same colour (white!) as the sky.
