I Come in Peace!

[best appreciated at full size against black]
I found a lot of fun shots on our photo excursion down to the Rogue River the other day. At one point, I was looking at some weird seed pods on a tree when I turned and saw this cutie pie standing there, practically waving hello! He was very brave and stood patiently while I set my tripod up, aimed, and fired! :D I think he looks like a little space alien who came to Earth for a visit!
The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is actually a native of China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. It was accidentally introduced into the United States, with the first specimen being collected in September 1998. It is considered to be an agricultural pest, but I still think this little guy is adorable! :) If you would like to know more about this invader, Wikipedia has a super page here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_marmorated_stink_bug

Brookings Beach with Flare (Explore #40)

Here's a view of one of the beaches we visited, complete with a sun flare! You can see the fog burning off in the distance. When we arrived, the whole area was socked in with fog but quickly melted away within an hour, and the day was simply perfect with very little wind and a wonderful temperature! It was pure heaven, and exactly what I hoped for! :)
By the way, I've uploaded 2 other pictures today and I hope you'll visit them too!

The Breathtaking Catalina Macaw Hybrid!

A few days ago I posted a fun portrait of this bird, and here is another picture to feast your eyes on! What a beauty! I am fascinated by animal husbandry, so seeing the hybrids featured at Chris Biro's Pirate's Parrot Show was fascinating to me. I was so surprised to find out that this hybrid ( Scarlet x Blue & Gold ) can occur in the wild, since the parent birds are so different in coloration! However, when mates of the same species are not available, this cross-breeding sometimes happens.
I founf a fascinating website that discusses the known captive and wild hybrid crosses with pictures and a lot of information. Animal World: Hybrid Macaws
If you would like to know more about Catalina Macaws, I found a page here: Catalina Macaws To learn about Chris Biro's wonderful parrot conservation organization, please visit Bird Recovery International
By the way, I've uploaded two other pictures today and I hope you'll visit them too!
