Since I was discussing Morning Glories yesterday with my image of a Morning Glory vine, I thought it might be nice to follow that up with an up-close-and-personal picture of a gorgeous purple flower in all of its radiance! Aren't these flowers just magnificent?

126/366: Morning Glory Vine

I had a wonderful time growing flowers from seeds, and I especially loved growing Morning Glories! I adore climbing vines with their tendrils clinging to everything. There are so many interesting ways they attach to things they encounter. Even the beginning of a vine is wonderful to look at, with its gleaming, hairy green face peering out to see where it might find a place to begin winding and sending out tendrils!

Western Morning Glory: The 152nd Flower of Spring…

28 Oct 2012 1 1 248
I discovered this beautiful wildflower just outside our fence line one morning while walking the dogs, and soon found few more in both white and pale pink! This is a wild species of the very popular garden flower which has been cultivated to be a strong, climbing vine with huge blossoms. Most wild species tend to trail along the ground and can create dense carpets that can choke out other plants. There are over 1,000 different species around the world! Western Morning Glories are native to California and Oregon and bloom from May through July and feature blossoms which can be 2" in diameter. They grow in both meadow and open forest where they get full sun. If you would like to know more about Morning Glories, Wiki has a nice source here: Wiki: Morning Glory
