Last summer I let Molly come with Moosie, Zoe, and me up to the top of the ridge so she could go on our walk. Unfortunately, it was hot and she was very out of shape, and I realized that I shouldn't take her in the future. She has only 3 legs and though she gets around very well, a strenuous climb up a steep hill was really too much for her. So, every time I went on that walk, I'd tell her I was sorry but she just couldn't go.
A couple of months ago I started going on more walks around the lower forest and letting Molly come along. At first she could only do half of the walk. And then she could do the entire walk (about 1 mile or so). Then she was able to do a walk early in the day and another in the afternoon. I was very happy she was doing so well, and she loved being part of the pack on our walks.
A couple of weeks ago I made the decision, and when I told Moosie and Zoe we were going up to the ridge, I told Molly she was invited to go! :) I was taking my camera with me, so I'd be plugging along and Molly would have time to rest along the way.
When I started to walk towards the trail that went up to the top of the hill, Molly got so happy she could hardly stand it! Up we went, and she was in such good shape that she led the way!! I stopped a couple of times to let her rest, and as we got to the top, she was in front, tail flagged, ears perked and a huge smile on her face! The whole walk she was elated and never showed signs of exhaustion. In fact, she did so well that day that I've taken her with us every time since! :)
It means the world to Molly to be part of the gang. In return, she's bonded more strongly to all of us and she is happier than she's ever been with us. That's our Molly girl!! :D

This picture is worth a thousand words. Steve and Molly are in love and it's a joy to see their relationship. Molly is our Border Collie rescue, and as you can see, she only has three legs. That doesn't stop her though and she gets around just fine. She loves the water, so Steve made a wish come true by taking her for a walk on the beach when we went to Brookings, Oregon. It was such a wonderful thing to see them so happy together! :) (If you would like to read about Molly's story, here's a link to another picture and more information. )
By the way, I've uploaded 2 other pictures today and I hope you'll visit them too!
Thanks to all of you who have visited and have left comments and favorites! I try to go to all of your pages within a day or two and is a highlight for me to see your beautiful photography! :)

This is our beautiful rescue dog, Molly, who's been through so much, but has found a forever home with us. Unfortunately, about six months after she and her 6-month old puppy found their way onto our property, she ran off with her wandering pup, and when she came back a week later, we discovered that she'd been caught in a snare trap. The leg could not be saved, but Molly now lives inside as a royal member of our family and we love her dearly. (Her son ran off for longer and longer periods, and the last time he came to visit, we realized that he'd found a home because he was well-fed and healthy.)
This picture was taken at the top of our ridge, and as you can see, Molly is very happy and very tired! She really wanted to come along on one of my walks with Moosie and Zoe, and, in a moment of weakness, I relented and let her go up to the top of the hill with us. She was very proud and happy that she got to go, and I made sure to go slowly so she could get up to the top and rest along the way.I took this picture at the top as we relaxed for a while. Once she'd rested enough, she wanted to continue, and we went the whole way along the ridge (about half a mile) and she loved every moment of the adventure! We do our best to let Molly have all the experiences she can--she can do so much on three legs but we have to stop her from trying to do too much because she doesn't understand that she's got less mobility now.
If you would like to read Molly's whole story, I dedicated a blog entry to her which has pictures too! :)
