Humboldt County, northern Nevada. It looked inviting to explore, except that (a) there were a _lot_ of people (as you might not gather from this photo), and (b) there are lots of rattlesnakes! There also wasn't the well-defined use path along the creek we were expecting; this road peters out in another quarter mile or so. The skylined peak is Sugarloaf (6411 ft/1954 m). The big gray-green shrubs are sagebrush; the trees down by the creek are Great Basin cottonwood ( Populus fremontii ).

Part of a flock of wild turkeys on the road into Martin Creek, at the north end of Paradise Valley, Nevada. Turkeys ( Meleagris gallopavo ) have been re-establishing themselves in much of their historic range in North America over the last few decades.
