My mother's stepmother worked as a housekeeper before she married my grandfather and this is the little girl of the house, Margery Parker. Margery's father had a successful jewelry business in London and at one point gave my Nana a very pretty amethyst necklace in the shape of a butterfly that she passed on to me "to wear on my wedding day" which I did, although given my hippieish wedding dress it wasn't a completely successful match! Their house was in Amersham, Buckinghamshire according to my mother. This was taken some time in the 1920s. I loved this picture as a kid and when I visited England at eighteen years of age, this was one of the photos that my Nana and Grandad kindly let me keep.
