From Sian

Newport Road. From Sian: I walked past the house today where Aunty Joan and your dad lived after their mother was taken ill. I remember going there when I was little. It was a very grand house then but look at it now.... it’s in flats and very uncared for. I often pass it and always give it a nod. They spent the war years there... (obviously not your dad) and the 3 girls... my mum, Aunty Joan and Aunty Sheila had lots of fun and laughter there... The generation now gone..

My father's mother. She lived and died in Cardiff, although she worked in Fishguard, Wales when my Dad was young. Originally Catherine Smith, she married Arthur Stone and had two children, Doris and Leonard. Her husband died of Spanish Influenza and she later married Gudmund Andreas Lundbech in 1920. She had two more children - my father Raymond in 1921 and Joan in 1924. Her life was hard - more tragedy followed. She died before I was born. My aunt says she had a beautiful singing voice. My children's Great Grandmother. The Boys>Deborah>Raymond>Catherine Smith Stone Lundbech

This is the only photo we have of my father as a little boy - it was copied from a book on Cardiff that my Aunt Joan sent over. Adamsdown Infants' School, 1927-28. 3rd row down, third from the left.

Where my Dad grew up in Cardiff - down (or up) the road from Lipskin's (flikr friend's) dad. What a small world! My Dad lived here later though - in the 1920s. This was taken in 1972 - and it's looking a little worse for wear. It's more poshed up now.

Cardiff Relatives #2 1972

My visit to Wales in 1972. Taken at St. Fagan's where a Welsh school girl stuck out her tongue at me! For no reason!! L to R: Sheila Murphy, my Dad's cousin, Aunt Joan, my Dad's sister and Kathryn Murphy (she was married but don't remember her last name.) She was Sheila's daughter and I wanted to BE her - she had her own flat, a cute husband, she was beautiful and brilliant and had sung on Welsh television when she was a child. While I was there she had just got her grant (she was at University) and had just bought the most perfect dress I could ever imagine owning. I had just turned 18 (days before) and couldn't wait to have a life like that!!
