Written by E. Nesbit. A childhood favorite of mine. You have to look past the Edwardian sexism, but they're wonderful stories. This picture shows their discovery of the Psammead, a "Sand Fairy." He's a miserable, cross creature who is duty bound to grant their wishes, but somehow, no matter what they wish for, things go wrong.
